Layout Update 11-16-15
Wiring, water and pilings. October had us starting to wire the layout. Soon we'll be able to run an engine under its own power.
While one crew was doing the electrical work, another was working on painting the water along the edge of the layout and installing all the pilings and cribbing.

Feeders were run up through the roadbed.
We numbered the blocks to keep track of them above the layout.
The thick gray wire is the bus line that runs from the panel out to the tracks. The thin gray and white wires are the feeders that run from the bus line up to the rails.
The slide out panel for the Jersey City Terminal and main line. The block diagram is up on the right. That's the easiest way to keep track of everything.

We pre-numbered all the blocks. The blocks allow us to cut power to individual sections of track in case of a short or problem.

Butch is working on the feeders through the station.

Its a lot easier to solder to the back side of the rails BEFORE you install any backdrops.
More feeders.
Now on to painting the water by the docks. Mike has been busy painting all the water along the layout. This is actually a couple layers of blended paint to get the Jersey City blue-green sea water.
Here's the area between the docks where the tug and lighter will be tied up.

Mike was also busy over the last month building the cribbing and cutting all the pilings. The pink is a protective layer placed over the water while we're working on the pilings.
More of the pilings where the dock on the left ties into the mainland.
All the pilings and cribbing has finally been installed around the 'Lehigh' slip, and the car float was put in place to insure everything lined up. More pink protective sheets under the float.
Another shot of the Lehigh float apron and the pier for the kick-back track from the coal dumper in the foreground.
