Every year the garden railroads of South Jersey hold an open house. You can visit these wonderful garden layouts and enjoy their diversity and the creativity of their owners. This year we visited 4 layouts in New Jersey and 2 in Maryland. Anyone in our club who is interested in garden railroading can come along.

Cranberry Creek and Pinelands Railroad

Our first stop this year was Charlie and Jane Kratz's Cranberry Creek and Pinelands Railroad in Shamong New Jersey. This was our first chance to see this gorgeous outdoor railroad.
Charlie and Jane have been working on the railroad for 5 years, It is so complete and well done that the pictures describe it better than any words can. The full size foot bridge is well done and makes an interesting feature.
Here is member Jim Judge video taping the trip. The bridges were metal and very beautiful.
The waterfall and pond were well done. I especially liked how the waterfall was wide and gently dropped into the pond.
A good look at the side by side bridges that you first see as approach the layout. The layout was raised using these wall stones which allow you to curve the layout and give a very finished look.
A steam locomoytive crosses the arched bridge in the front of the layout. The layout was raised using these wall stones which allow you to curve the layout and give a very finished look.
A final look at the large yard on this fine outdoor layout. We knew we had a good day ahead since we had 5 more layouts to visit.
